MB Heating & Cooling is, once again, a proud sponsor of the Camp Out for Homeless Veterans fundraiser. The camp out is a fundraiser to benefit the Fifth Street Renaissance/SARA Center, which raises awareness for homelessness and military veterans and their families in our community – with the ultimate goal of helping them become more self-sufficient.
We ask families, church groups and businesses to join us at 3 p.m. on Oct. 10 at MB Heating & Cooling, 1555 W. Jefferson St. in Springfield. The goal is to raise $10,000 or more to help homeless veterans by spending one night in a cardboard shelter at MB.
MB Heating & Cooling is also collecting non-perishable food items for Fifth Street’s shelves. Bring items to 1555 W. Jefferson St. between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. You can pick up your boxes for the shelter at the same time.
Raise the “rent” and get your campsite for the event by collecting pledges or donating to Fifth Street Renaissance. We are asking everyone to have a goal of raising $100, but all contributions are accepted. Donations can also be made to: gofundme.com/No-Veterans-Homeless.
Boxes will be provided. Bring your donation form, items to decorate your box shelter, sleeping bag, pillows, flashlight, deck of cards or other quiet games. Boxes may be picked up prior to Oct. 9 at MB. Please do not bring: valuables, electronics, pets, alcohol, tobacco or weapons.
COVID-19 has put a financial burden on helping to provide the homeless with food and nutritional supplements, as well as purchasing cleaning and sanitation supplies for Fifth Street Renaissance/SARA.
Due to social distancing practices, people can drop off donations at Fifth Street Renaissance’s main office (1315 N. 5th Street, Springfield), but you will not be able to enter the building, and no one will greet you there. Please leave donations on the back ramp, and call the number listed on the door. Someone will come out to get your donation. You can also donate to this great cause by sending checks made out to FSR to P.O. Box 5181, Springfield, Illinois, 62705.
We appreciate all of your help in serving the most vulnerable members of our community.
